Osborne, P. (2025). Quiet achievers: The role of Tasmanian school libraries in the state’s Lifting Literacy plan. Insight, 46(4), 22-24. Available with an ALIA membership or from the National Library of Australia database.

Tasmanian school libraries are positioned as a practical lever within the Tasmanian Government’s Lifting Literacy Implementation Plan (2024 to 2026), which foregrounds consistent, evidence-based and explicit literacy teaching across schooling. Focusing on the School Library Improvement Project, the article describes the establishment of a dedicated School Libraries Team and outlines a suite of workforce and service strategies, including funded professional learning, targeted just-in-time support, and initiatives to strengthen literacy-rich environments through refreshed print collections and increased uptake of digital resources such as Sora and StoryBox. It argues that much school library labour remains under-recognised, and proposes advocacy and school leadership engagement as necessary next steps to sustain improvements and embed school libraries as central contributors to whole-of-community literacy outcomes.
